A Glint of Hope
May 20th, 2007 by hitokiri-tinapaiIs it true that we Filipinos are hopeless when it comes to governing our country? Most would say - yes; others would disagree; and some just don’t care at all.
Honestly, I used to belong to the latter. Never really gave my self a chance to truly understand and see what really is happening in our country. Why, you asked? Because back then, I was sick of the way the government handles problems and how they seem to get a away with unresolved issues. Although we gave our trust to the few, who were privileged to serve the masses in order to represent the woes of the people, they seemed to have forgotten why they were in that position as time passed by. All they could ever think of were their hunger for power - nothing else. They never even cared for the peoples need in the first place. They were just using the masses. I despised these hypocrites! Corrupt hypocrites they were - nothing else! They were all the same. That was how i see it back then…a reason why I never really cared what would befall us all.
Then, came a time when I saw and heard someone in a news program battling out a certain issue. I really was amazed when I heard what he had to say. There was something about this guy. Something really sets him apart from his comrades - his ideals and the way he speaks his mind. Then, came his filing for candidacy… I was glad he did(much to my surprise!). I began to see things in a different way. There still are some few good men in our society. People who can stand up for the oppressed and the needy. People who cannot only determine what is truly right from wrong but also has the ability to fight for what is right. I am grateful I had seen him back then. Not that I’m being judgmental, it’s just that there really is something about him when you stare at him. If it wasn’t for him, I would never have found an alternative for telenovelas I only watch because my mother would never hear of changing the channel even though she often fell asleep. Aba! Watching news about this guy is far better than any other telenovelas ever! The casts are complete: there are Protagonists, Antagonists and even extras. The setting and plot? We can easily relate to. If you’d asked me who among the politicians I knew back then, I probably won’t be able to name more than twenty.
Thank you very much, Sir Chiz! People like you gave us a new glint hope . GOD SPEED, po!
